Bible verses to pray over your daughter

There are some things that your daughter may struggle with that your sons may not. As women today, we tend to deal with more body image issues and comparison. We also struggle with what comes out of our mouths. We want to equip our daughters to be women of God, and what better way than to pray for them in specific areas? Use these Bible verses to pray over your daughter in order to help her to overcome obstacles in her life.

1. To find her identity in Christ alone

It’s so easy to find your identity in your role, your gifts and talents, or in what your friends say you are or aren’t. Your daughter needs to embrace that her identity is in Christ and Him alone. It’s not in the things of this world.

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139:13-16 (ESV)

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9

“Dear Jesus, I ask You to help my lovely daughter see herself the way You see her. You love her with unconditional love, so help her to see that. Help her to find her identity in You and not in what the world sees. Amen.”

2. To guard what comes out of her mouth

As women, we tend to struggle with what comes out of our mouths, whether it be gossip, criticism, or other negative talk. Our daughters are no different, so let’s cover them in prayer.

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” Psalm 19:14

“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” Colossians 4:6

Dear Lord, help my daughter to guard her mouth. Help her to make wise decisions about the words that she says. May her words be gracious and build up those around her. Amen.

3. To focus on the internal more than the external

No, how you dress and what your hair looks like doesn’t really matter. Strive to be an example to your daughter that your outward appearance isn’t what matters most. Rather, what does your heart look like? Who are you serving? Pray that they will care more about what God thinks than what their friends think.

“Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.” 1 Peter 3:3-4

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:” 1 Peter 4:10

“Heavenly Father, help my daughter to see that the most important things aren’t what is on the outside but the inside. Help her to develop Christ-centered character and become a woman of joy. May she see that the most important things aren’t what the world deems important. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

4. For Protection

Not only will you want to pray for your daughter’s physical protection, but you will definitely want to be praying for protection against the schemes of Satan as well. Your daughter needs you to intercede on her behalf.

“But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3

“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” Psalm 91:11

5. To maintain control of her emotions

I don’t know about you, but several of my daughters are drama queens with a capital “Q!” They easily let their emotions dictate their words and their actions. Pray that your daughter learns to respond carefully, even in the midst of strong emotions.

“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation.” Psalm 42:5

“Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,” Ephesians 4:26

“Almighty God, my daughter is really struggling with her emotions right now. Please help her to find her hope in You as she seeks to control her emotions. Give her a spirit of peace instead of anger. Amen.”

6. To choose her friends wisely

Godly friends are so important to your daughter’s well-being. Yes, it’s fine to have acquaintance-level friendships with those who don’t follow Jesus, but it’s so very important that your daughter’s closest friends are also Christians. You want your daughter to have friends who will inspire her and encourage her in her walk with God and not draw her away.

“One who is righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.” Proverbs 12:26

“Dear God, I ask that You help my daughter choose good friends, friends who will have a positive influence on her life. I know that friends really do have a great influence, so help her to find the right friends who will encourage her to grow closer to You. Guard her against anyone who may impact her with negative influences. Help her to make the right choices when it comes to her friends. In Jesus’s name, Amen.”

7. For strength

Teach your daughter that true strength comes from God. It is He who inspires and helps us to stand up for what’s right, to choose to make the right choice or give our all to what He has called us to do. Your daughter should learn to draw her strength from God, so this is a great prayer to pray for her.

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 76:26

“Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!” Psalm 31:24

8. To serve God in her singleness

I have a daughter who is so looking forward to when she can date and get married. However, Paul reminds us that we can really pour out our life for God when we’re not so distracted by serving our family. Pray that your daughter is willing to be used by God greatly while she is single.

“and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband.” 1 Corinthians 7:34

“Dear God, my beautiful daughter is no longer a little girl. Her desire is to be married, but I pray that she can use this time of singleness to grow her relationship with You. Help her to focus on serving You instead of finding someone to date. May she honor You in this season. In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.”

9. For her future husband

Since most women eventually do get married,  be praying already for your daughter’s future husband. He’s growing up in this same world and will have tough choices to make. Pray that he follows God with all his heart. That’s the most important thing we want in a future son-in-law.

“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. . . Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,” Ephesians 5:22,25-26

“Lord God, I pray now for my beloved daughter. In your time, I ask that You bring her the right husband; bring her a man with a pure heart, who loves You, Lord Jesus. Marriage is a precious gift, and I want my daughter to know the blessings of that when the time is right. Amen.”

10. To be a godly wife

We all know how hard it is to be a godly wife. Before we got married, we had grandiose ideas of how our marriage would be, and now our daughters have them. Be an example to her, and pray for her to grow in all the ways she needs to in order to be a godly wife.

“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.” Proverbs 31:30-31

“Lord God, my daughter desires to be a godly wife. I know how challenging it can be sometimes, so I ask You to give her wisdom and guidance in this area. Help me to continue to be a good example to her in my own marriage. Help her and her husband to keep You at the center. Amen.”

The Bible verses above should give you a great springboard of what to pray for your daughter. However, the prayers below may also be of help to you. Pour out your requests before the Lord. Ask Him to direct, guide, and mold your daughter into a strong woman of God.

By praying these powerful prayers for your daughter, you will be asking for God’s help in keeping your precious daughter on the right path. Prayer is the best way you can help your daughter with life’s challenges.

A prayer for my daughter to give her strength

Is your daughter going through a tough time? This mother’s prayer will ask God to give her the strength she needs in this season. Prayer is such a powerful tool!

“Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that my daughter will draw her strength from You alone. Even though her flesh and heart may fail, You are her strength forever. “Dear Lord, I entrust my daughter’s protection into Your loving care. Even before she was born, You had a plan for her. I ask that You command Your angels to guard her in all her ways. Prayer for a disrespectful daughter

It seems as though some children test the boundaries more than others. If you have a daughter who is disrespectful, remind her of God’s blessings in her life. Tell her that even though you mess up, you love her with all that you are. Also, pray this heartfelt prayer for your daughter.

“Heavenly Father, my daughter has been so disrespectful to me. You want her to honor her father and mother, and her talk has been far from honoring. Please help her to see that this is a sin that needs to be dealt with. I ask you to help me to be an example to her by the way I speak and respond, even if I’m upset. I ask for Your divine intervention to change her heart and her words. May her speech be gracious and uplifting. May the words of her mouth be acceptable to You instead of disrespectful. In Christ’s name, I pray, Amen.”

Prayer for my daughter’s success

Before praying this prayer, think about what true success is. Is it to have an amazing and high-paying career? Is it to be the best musician or gymnast? Is it to have lots of friends? No. True success comes from following the Lord with all your heart. It comes when you obey what God has for you. True success is a life sold out for God. Pray for true success for your daughter.

“Dear Lord, I confess that sometimes my ideas of my daughter’s success may not be the same as Yours. Joshua 1:8 reminds me that true success comes when my daughter follows Your Word. I ask that You give her a heart for you — a desire to follow Your path for her throughout her days. I know that when she does that, You will truly bless her. Amen.”
