When we think of mothers, often the first thing that comes to mind is love. Whether your mom showed you that or not, that’s what is desired. Mothers are known for their selfless love for their children. She will do anything to make sure their children are happy and safe. She will even do things that are uncomfortable or things she thought she would never do.
The Bible speaks a great deal about mothers and their love. Let’s look at some of my favorite mother’s love Bible verses for Mother’s Day or other occasions.
A Mother’s Love
What is a mother’s love? The Bible defines mothers’ love as a sacrificial love. A mother loves her children with selfless love and is willing to give up anything for them. This type of love is unconditional and unchanging. Mothers are always there for their children, no matter what happens.
If you think about it, our love is really based on how God loves us. He shows unconditional love when we mess up. He wants what’s best for us. In fact, God loved us before we were born and even while we were in our sin. God’s love helps us love our children well.
Mothers are a blessing from God! As mothers or even mother figures, we have great compassion and care for our children or those under our care. We were made to nurture them and give them all they need. Our love for our children often results in uncomfortable situations, sleepless nights, and giving up of our time.

- Mothers are a blessing from God.
- Mothers are to be honored and respected.
- A mother’s teaching is to be obeyed.
- A mother’s love is unending.

- A mother looks well to the ways of her household.
Bible verse about mother’s love
Now let’s check out some Bible verses about mothers and their love and care for their families. A mother’s love is comforting, gives her joy, and is the basis of passing down faith to her children. Here are just a few examples:
1. Psalm 113:9
“He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord!” (ESV)
Children are certainly something to praise the Lord for. They fill our home with life, with joy, and with laughter. This verse also reminds us that God is the giver of children.
2. Isaiah 66:13
“As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.”
Comforting her children is just something that a mother does. Just think about it – that is how God comforts us! The verse is a great reminder of how a mother’s love is comforting.
3. John 16:21
“When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.”
Children ultimately bring us joy. Yes, the labor may have been hard and lasted for hours. It may have been even a traumatic experience. Motherhood itself is hard for that matter! It can be exhausting and takes so much out of us. However, it is totally worth it in the long run. To see your child learn and grow, become their own unique person, and trust in Christ for themselves is amazing!
4. Luke 2:51
“And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.”
This verse is about Jesus’ mother, but I think this is something many mothers do. We treasure and cherish the times with our children as they were growing up. Sometimes it feels hard in the midst, but these years will be over before you know it. We will miss the times of a home filled with children. This is a great mother’s love Scripture.
5. 2 Timothy 1:5
“ I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.”
I love this verse because it reminds us of how important it is to teach our children about Jesus. It shows the impact of a godly mother throughout generations. What they learn growing up will turn into a genuine faith of their own. Their faith will then be passed down to their children and their children’s children. What a great joy this is!
Proverbs 31:10-31 is a great passage that talks all about the different ways a godly woman loves her family. This virtuous woman had a full life taking care of such things as her family, her household, and eve her business.I highly encourage you to read the whole passage, but I’d love to share with you some of my favorites.
6. Proverbs 31:15
“She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.”
A mother loves her family so much that she gets up early and/or stays up late to make sure they are cared for. A mother’s love truly has no bounds! Caring for her family is an important role as a mom.
7. Proverbs 31:26
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”
This model mother is wise and kind. She has an authentic faith that she lives out in day-to-day life. This is what we should all aspire to as Christian mothers. In fact, this Bible verse of mother’s love is one of my favorites!
8. Proverbs 31:28-29
“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.'”
In the end, her family realizes their mother’s value . . . how much she truly loves her family. They see the fruit of her hands and praise her as a good mother. Although she receives hard-earned praise, she has loved sacrificing for her family all the days of her life. She has the unfading beauty that comes from an inner quiet spirit.
Bible Story about a Mother’s Love
The Bible tells the story of a mother whose love was truly inspiring. This is certainly not the only story of a mother’s love in the Bible, but it’s a great example of the lengths a mother will go to protect her child.
The story is about a wise woman named Jochebed, who was the mother of Moses. When Moses was born, he was in danger because Pharaoh had ordered all newborn Hebrew boys to be killed. However, Jochebed knew that she needed to find a way to save her son’s life.
She came up with a unique plan and put Moses in a basket, placing him in the Nile River. The daughter of Pharaoh found the baby Moses and decided to adopt him. Jochebed risked going against Pharoah to save her son’s life! What an amazing mother! As it worked out, Jochabed was then able to keep and nurse her son in her own home until he was old enough to move to Pharoah’s house.
This story is a great example of how mothers will do anything for their children. Jochebed loved her son so much that she was willing to take any risk possible to keep him safe. Mothers are willing to go to great lengths to protect their children and do what’s best for them. In this case, Moses later led the Israelite people out of slavery in Egypt!
A Mother’s Love is a Blessing
A mother’s love is a blessing in the life of her child. Motherhood is a calling from God and we should embrace this ministry God has given us. We need to pray that God will give us the wisdom to know what we may need to sacrifice in order to best help our children and point them to Jesus Christ.
As moms, our love should point our children to the greater love that Jesus has for them. As we point them to the cross of Jesus, they will be blessed with the eternal life that’s found with Him. That, dear Mama, is the ultimate blessing of motherhood, and there is no greater joy than this!
