What the Bible Says About the Mind
What does the Bible say about the mind? As just mentioned, the Scriptures are filled with references to the mind. The Lord wants us to have a sound mind and healthy thoughts. In fact, an important part of your journey to healing and wholeness is to renew your mind according to the Scriptures. Let’s check out some scriptures that will help you do just that!
Scriptures on the Mind
There are quite a few Bible verses about the mind, but we’ll just talk about some of them. There are sound mind Scriptures, verses on renewing your mind, and also Scriptures that tell us that God knows our mind.
The verse listed below reminds us that God wants us to have a sound mind. Our minds aren’t meant to send us off into thoughts of fear or anxiety.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” II Timothy 1:7 NKJV
This is one of the most well-known Bible verses on the mind. It reminds us that our minds truly can be transformed. Also, our actions are stemmed from what we’re allowing into our minds.
Romans 12:2 (ESV) says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
You can’t hide your thoughts from God. He knows and sees all, and He has given us His Word, the Bible, to discern even our thoughts and intentions.
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
Healing Scriptures for the mind
As moms we can struggle with negative thought patterns such as not being good enough, feeling like we’re failing at this mom thing, or worrying. However, using Scripture can turn these negative thought patterns around. Here are three Scriptures that can help you deal with these negative thoughts. Give your cares to the Lord and set your mind on Him.
“do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
“For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:6
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27
As moms, unless we prioritize our relationship with God, it can easily fall by the wayside. Learn more about growing closer to God. As we grow closer to Him, we become a better wife and mother as well.
Bible verses about controlling your thoughts
When we focus on things of God and give Him our worries, we have ultimate peace in our lives, no matter what’s going on around us. These next verses remind us that we need to be controlling our thoughts. This next one, especially, tells us what we should be thinking about. Are these the things that fill your mind, dear mama?
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8
“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:2
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3
Don’t you love that it is the transformation of our mind that renews us? This can only happen when we look to Christ! Pray and ask Him to help you keep your mind focused on things that are pure and holy and right. Ask Him to keep your mind fixed on what’s above and not on the here and now.
Mind of Christ Bible Verse
As we’ve seen, our mind is a powerful tool, so we need to guard it. However, as a Christian, we are to have the mind of Christ. In fact, check out these Bible verses about having the mind of Christ.
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in fashion as a man he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” -Philippians 2: 16-18
“’For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:16
