As a mother of six children, I know that motherhood is a tough job. It can be difficult to do the things I need to do, and I feel like I don’t have enough energy left at the end of the day. As a Christian mom, I want to be intentional about pointing my children to Christ and not bogged down by daily struggles. I want to get through my days with joy and peace in my heart! I want to share some prayers for mothers with you so you have them to guide you in your prayers.
God Hears the Prayer of a Mother
The Bible has a lot to say about our prayers and about how God hears them. Our prayers are powerful! Our prayers as mothers can be effective in helping us to change things in our lives and in the lives of our children. Check out this verse:
"Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." James 5:16 ESV
This verse reminds us to be praying for one another and that the prayer of the righteous has great power! I think we often underestimate the power of prayer. I know I do. Dear Mama, God hears your prayers! In fact, God not only hears your prayers, but He wants to you to pray to Him.
"do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7
God will hear your prayer as you bring everything to Him. Thank Him and bring Him your requests. When we do that, the verse above reminds us that God’s peace will guard our hearts and minds! I love that!
What Is a Good Prayer for Mothers?
There is certainly no one perfect prayer for mothers. Each mother’s prayer should be tailored to your own individual needs. However, there are a few key things that all mothers probably could pray for:
- Strength during the challenging times
- Patience and grace when dealing with challenging children or situations
- Wisdom to make decisions that are best for their families
- The salvation of their children and family members
- Guidance in raising their children in a godly way
- Joy, even in the hard times
- To model well the life of a Christian
Feel free to add to this list. Pray for the things you struggle with, but also thank God for blessings both large and small.
Prayers for Moms
Try using some of the prayer points listed above to formulate prayers. I hope the prayers I’ve shared below will help get you started. Prayer isn’t about certain words, but about a conversation with God. Be sure to take some time in silence to listen as well. The following prayers for moms will get you started.
“Dear Lord, Motherhood is more challenging but more rewarding than I ever imagined it could be. Please help me to be a godly mother who models well what it means to be a Christian. Help me to find joy in the busyness. Please give me the wisdom I need to raise my children to follow You. Amen.”
“Heavenly Father, I have a the great burden and desire for all my children to give their lives to You. Please give me your guidance to point them to You. Help me to love them well, even when they are challenging me. Give me Your patience and understanding in this task. I certainly can’t do this on my own. Amen.”
Prayer for mother’s strength
Many moms feel overwhelmed in motherhood, so praying for strength can help. Ask God to give you the strength you need each day.
“God, thank you for the gift of motherhood! It is such a great privilege to raise up children in Your ways. Please help me be the mom You want me to be. Give me strength and wisdom to get through the daily struggles! I can’t do this on my own. Amen”
“Dear Lord, please give me the strength to get through each day. I lay my anxieties and burdens on You so I can have peace in my heart and mind. Thank You for helping me do what You have called me to do. Amen”
