As moms, we have so much to keep track of but it’s so easy to let our days fly by with no plan or purpose. I want to share 12 strategies that will help make your days more productive at home. How can I be productive as a mom when I’m home all day every day? This is a question that many mothers ask themselves. Have you? There are a few ways that you can be productive while at home with your children. One thing to remember is that you will want to focus on one thing at a time. Contrary to popular belief, multitasking is not productive. This means that you should only work on one task at a time and when it is completed, move on to the next one. When you are done with all of your tasks for the day, then you can just enjoy your family or take some time to pursue something you love.

Believe it or not, even with caring for your children, changing diapers, and making meals, you can get to the end of the day feeling productive. Even as moms, our calling is a high one. I think that sometimes we don’t realize how important our work truly is. Mama, you are important. Your work is important.
Now, let’s just into some strategies to get your work done each day. The goal isn’t to feel like you need to add more work to your day, but to be efficient and productive in the work that needs to be done in order for everyone to be taken care of and your household maintained. The goal is to get things done so that you have time to enjoy your family.
- First, try to create a daily routine for yourself and follow it as closely as possible. This will help keep you on track and make sure that you accomplish all of the tasks that you need to during the day. You will also want to build other routines into your life such as a cleaning and laundry routine as well.
- Write it down. Make a plan. Do you need to make an appointment or run an errand? Add it to your to-do list or calendar.
- Next, make a list of the tasks that need to be done each day and try to stick to it as closely as possible. This will help you avoid stress and keep you on track. Some find it helpful to prioritize the top 3 things that need to be accomplished each day.

- Teach your children to do chores. This can be anything from helping you make dinner to emptying the trash to doing the dishes. Having their help will not only speed up the process but it will also keep them occupied and out of trouble! Soon they’ll be able to work independently and that’s more off your plate!
- Learn to manage your time effectively. As you learn to eliminate time wasters and focus on the priorities God has given you, you are much more able to be productive. I highly recommend Managing Your Time by Jordan Raynor. I’m reading it now and it’s so very helpful!
- Set some time aside each day specifically for you. This can be time for you to relax, read a book or Bible, take a bath, or just take a nap. You need this time to rejuvenate yourself so that you can continue being productive throughout the day.
- Try to listen to music that motivates you during the day as this will help pass the time quickly. Listening to upbeat music can increase your motivation and energy levels which means that you’ll be more productive! I love turning on praise and worship music during the day or instrumental in the evening.

- If possible, set aside a few hours during the week where you can focus on completing tasks and getting things done. Having a few hours of focused time is better than having to stay up late at night trying to get everything finished! Try to keep your evenings for relaxation and family time.
- Take time to reflect. What’s working and what isn’t? What could you do differently? Homemaking and mothering is a process that you will continue to grow in.
- Get up earlier. Now I realize there are seasons of motherhood when this isn’t a reality . . . such as after the birth of a new baby. However, by making sure you get to sleep at a decent time and then getting up earlier, you can get a great start on your day . . . hopefully uninterrupted!
